Frequently Asked Questions About Pack 169 & Cub Scouts

How can my son join Pack 169?
Please contact any of our committee members any time by choosing the e-mail links located in the About Us section of our website.  We will be having a joining night for new scouts on Thursday, September 10,2009 from 6:30 to 7:30pm @ St. Mary's.  We will also be starting a spring recruiting program this year in order for our new scouts to participate in the exciting summer activities scouting has to offer.

Who can join Pack 169?
All boys in grades 1 thru 5 can join our pack at any time.  It's never too late to join in the FUN!

When and where are pack meetings held?
Our pack meetings are held in Providence Hall at St. Marys, 2510 Middle Road in Glenshaw.  Weather permitting, we enjoy taking our meetings outside to the pavillions behind the school.  Regular pack meetings are usually held on the 3rd Thursday of each month.  We do have several special meetings & outings throughout the year that are held off-site.

What does it cost to join Pack 169?
The registration fee for 2009-2010 is $25.  This fee pays for the scout's registration with the BSA for the year, advancement awards, pack activity patches and funds special activities throughout the year.  Individual dens may also choose to collect den dues (usually very minimal) to cover den meeting supplies & den outings.

What does my son need for his scout uniform & where do I get it?
Each scout will need to purchase a Class A uniform from Flag Plaza (across from Mellon Arena).  The Class A uniform includes:  navy scout shirt (Webelos may wear the khaki boy scout shirt if they prefer--short sleeves & larger sizes are recommended), navy or khaki dress pants (jeans may be worn to most pack meetings), the Greater Pittsburgh Council patch, Pack 169 numerals, Den numerals (assigned after joining night) and the World Crest patch. The Class A uniform is worn to all pack meetings and to official scout outings.  Scouts may also purchase a Class B t-shirt from the pack for $6.  Class B uniforms come in handy for den meetings, outdoor adventures and scout camp.

What will my son gain by joining Pack 169 & the Cub Scout Program?
Boys who join Cub Scouts have the chance to discover a whole new world of adventure, to strengthen themselves spiritually & mentally and to build relationships that will last a life time.  The adult volunteers of Pack 169 promote an encouraging environment allowing the boys to experience each and every aspect of scouting's 12 core vaules:  citizenship, compassion, cooperation, courage, faith, health & fitness, honesty, perserverance, positivie attitude, resourcefulness, respect and responsibility.
